The first archangel to appear on a silver coin of the Czech Mint is Michael.

In our prayers, we can turn directly to God or to His mediators who oversee various aspects of our existence. Archangels are among the most revered divine beings who listen to human wishes and help those in need. The ways of the Lord are often unpredictable, and when we get lost on them, thanks to these kind and tireless heavenly messengers we can reach our desired destination... Michael, whose name comes from the Hebrew מִיכָאֵל - Mīḳā'ēl - or God-like, is considered the most powerful of all the archangels. He is the leader and commander who is just and merciful, but at the same time powerful and feared among the heavenly beings. He will give strength, courage and protection from evil to those in need. He helps to get rid of fear and gives confidence.

The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of medal maker MgA. Tereza Eisner, presents a characteristic depiction of Michael. The archangel, who holds scales in one hand and a spear in the other, triumphs over the defeated devil. This scene refers to a passage from the Revelation of St. John: "And there was a battle in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought, but did not prevail, and there was no more room for them in heaven. And the great dragon, that ancient serpent, called the devil and Satan, who deceived the whole world, was cast down to the earth, and his angels with him." On the obverse side of the coin you will find the angel's face surrounded by wings and shining rays. As the licence to issue commemorative coins of the Czech Mint is granted by the Pacific island of Niue, the obverse side still bears its necessary attributes - the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2022.
