Product description

“Rome was not built in a day” and the establishment of Czechoslovakia was a long and demanding process. The four-part miniseries of the Czech Mint commemorates the year 1920, when the Republic was going to celebrate the second birthday. The first gold coin was dedicated to the first Czechoslovak constitution.

The most important law,
which replaced the provisional constitution of 1918, was approved by the National Assembly after difficult military negotiations on February 29, 1920. At the same time, our parliamentary democracy was founded. The creators of the Constitution were inspired by the documents of the USA, Austria-Hungary and France and added a number of significant innovations. Czechoslovakia was among the first states that provided women with voting rights, and it was also among the first countries that established a constitutional court to assess the constitutionality of laws and compliance with the regulations. The steady constitutional foundations of Czechoslovakia are evidenced by the fact that our first constitution survived the hardships of World War II and remained valid until 1948, when it was abolished by the Communist regime. To remember the constitutional foundations of the First Republic is extremely enlightening - also because many of the elements contained in the document from 1920 have been reflected in our current constitution…

Academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů
perceives the constitution as a pillar of democracy. Therefore, on the left side of the reverse side of the coin there is a column of the Constitutional Court surrounded by the inscription CZECHOSLOVAK CONSTITUTION 1920. The right side of the reverse side presents a tricolor and a large national emblem of Czechoslovakia surrounded by an ornamental pattern. The geometric decoration was not chosen by chance, however, it is based on the binding of the ceremonial design of the Czechoslovak Constitution, which was established in 1932. The coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the license of a foreign publisher, which is the island of Niue. Therefore their obverse sided bear its necessary attributes – the name and the profile of Queen Elizabeth II., the nominal value of 10 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of the issue 2020. The composition of the obverse side is supplemented with linden branches and tricolor that occurs in the entire mini-series…

You can store four coins in a
wooden collector's etui which can also be found in the offer of the Czech Mint.
