An oval coin with a motif of the deluxe train

The original route of Orient Express ran from Paris to Rumania in 1883. The luxury train was developed by a Belgian civil engineer Georges Nagelmackers, who was inspired by comfortable Pullman carriages during his stay in the US. The hotel-type train consisted of first class carriages, in particular of restaurant and sleeping coaches, and baggage cars.
The obverse side of the coin depicts Orient Express on the background of landscape at night, a Turkish half-moon and the obligatory requisites: the effigy of Queen Elizabeth, the face value of the coin – 1 NZD, the name of the country Niue Island and the year of issue.
The reverse side features a silhouette of Istanbul lit by the Turkish half-moon, with two motives from the decoration of Orient Express coaches placed below – an art-nouveau decorative painting and the train’s embossed logo with years 1883 and 2013. The text in circumscription in two languages reads "130 let Orient Expresu", "130 years of the Orient Express".

Limited edition 1,000 pcs.
