A fitting tribute to an historic Royal event
The Royal Wedding UK £5 Silver Proof Coin is presented in an elegant display case, with a Certificate of Authenticity attesting to a very strict maximum coin mintage of 50,000 coins. The Royal Mint Proof standard is famous throughout the world – each coin is struck in a dust-free environment and finished by hand. The perfectly crafted vision of this perfectly happy moment: and your own chance to share a little of their joy.
Bearing the officially approved portraits of Prince William and Catherine Middleton – only the sixth time in history that a double portrait has appeared on British coinage – the Royal Wedding UK £5 Coin struck in gleaming sterling silver is the perfect tribute to the happy couple. The Diamond and Golden Wedding anniversaries of Her Majesty The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are the most recent examples, while the portraits of Prince William’s own parents, The Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer, created for their wedding in 1981, is a lasting reminder of the day a nation celebrated.
Mark Richards, British portrait sculptor, was chosen in an invitation- only tender process to design the Royal Wedding UK £5 Coin. He describes his design as inspired by ‘a feeling that pervades all the photographs I have seen of the couple together. The portraits are not posed and capture what might be a fleeting, informal moment between two people who share immense fondness for each other’. (source: Royal Mint, UK)
