A new cycle of record-breaking platinum medals weighing one half of a kilogram launched in 2017, gradually marks the architectural styles and their most important works that we find on our territory. The Gothic style came after the Romanesque art in 2018.

The term Gothic is derived from the name of the Gothic tribe. It was invented by Italian humanists for the Middle Ages, for whom this style was synonymous with barbaric artistic expression. Typical Gothic features first manifested in the second half of the 12th century and continued for three centuries. The Gothic remained the leading figure in Central and Western Europe even at the time when the Renaissance took place in the south. Gothic architecture is in contrast to the Romanesque characterized by verticalism, disembodiment and illumination, which underlines the direction of God. A self-supporting ribbed and cross vault became a major break in the construction. Typical gothic features include pointed arches, narrow turrets - violets, large circular windows - rosettes - or gargoyles in the form of stone figures. "The Czech Gothic in connection with important buildings of temples, town houses, palaces and castles has an irreplaceable place in the European context. Its varied and rich scale is a significant stone in the mosaic of European architecture, sculpture, painting and arts," says expert advisor of the cycle PhDr. Katerina Nora Novakova, Ph.D. The Church of the Mother of God situated near to Tyn is one of the most important Czech Gothic monuments. The temple, which was built between the 14th and 16th century, is situated in the center of Prague's Old Town. It is characterized not only by its construction but also by the sculptural decoration and is inherently connected with the era of Hussitism and the reign of George of Podebrady.

The obverse side of the medal from the atelier of an expert medal maker Mgr. A. Jan Hasek is dominated by the front view of the three-nave basilica with two towers. The reverse side then includes a detailed look at the richly decorated northern portal. Inscriptions then present THE CHURCH OF THE MOTHER OF THE GOD BEFORE TYN - GOTHIC STYLE – THE CZECH REPUBLIC.

Each of only 12 pieces of platinum medals is provided with a special certificate of authenticity and an accompanying booklet with the text of PhDr. Katerina Nora Novakova, Ph.D., which presents the Gothic style and unique czech construction more in detail.
