The ten-part cycle of commemorative coins of the Czech National Bank, which represents the most famous castles of the Czech Republic, enters its second half. The sixth gold coin with a nominal value of 5000 CZK minted in top quality proof was dedicated to Rabi Castle.
Although Rabi is a ruin, it is one of our largest and best castles. The original core of the castle was probably found at the beginning of the 13th century and was shaped as a so-called donjon - a residential defensive tower. In the following centuries, there were a number of enlargements and developments, of which the Gothic one was the most significant. At the time of its greatest glory, Rabi had an area of about 10,000 square meters and excelled in a sophisticated defense system with cannon bastions. The total length of the walls is almost three kilometers long. For their conquest, the famous Hussite commander Jan Žižka of Trocnov paid his second eye ...
The Bank Board of the Czech National Bank had chosen an artist's design made by Asamat Baltaev, DiS., who "represents the monumentality of the castle ruins". The reverse side of the coin gives a look at a number of castle buildings that have survived centuries. The obverse side offers a bird's eye view , where the heraldic creatures are embedded in the fortified bastions.
