General Land Centennial Exhibition and completion of Petřín observation tower, funicular to Petřín and first electric street railway to Letná

On 11 May 2016 the Czech National Bank is putting into circulation a CZK 200 commemorative silver coin to mark the 125th anniversary of the General Land Centennial Exhibition. The coin is minted from an alloy containing 925 parts silver and 75 parts copper and is issued in two versions, normal quality and proof quality, which differ in surface treatment and edge marking. Proof-quality coins have a highly polished field, a matt relief and a plain edge with the inscription in Czech “ČESKÁ NÁRODNÍ BANKA * Ag 0.925 * 13 g *”. Normal quality coins have milled edges. The coin is 31 mm in diameter, weighs 13 g and is 2.25 mm thick. As with any other coins, deviations in diameter of 0.1 mm and thickness of 0.15 mm are allowed. Upward deviations in weight of 0.26 g and silver content of 1% are permitted.

The lower edge of the obverse side of the coin depicts the Petřín funicular and its drawing, including a part of the engine room. The centre of the coin features the first electric tram, with the Petřín lookout tower to the right up to the upper edge. The name of the state “ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA” is located around the left-hand upper edge of the coin. The denomination and abbreviated monetary unit “200 Kč” are written under the name of the state. The mark of the Czech Mint, in the form of the letters “Č” and “M”, is located near the right-hand edge of the coin above the depiction of the engine room. The reverse side of the coin depicts the Industrial Palace in the background, with the entrance gate to the General Land Centennial Exhibition in the foreground. The upper edge of the coin contains the years “1891–2016”. The lower edge of the coin contains the text “ZEMSKÁ JUBILEJNÍ VÝSTAVA”. The mark of the designer Asamat Baltaev is located inside the entrance gate at the foot of the right-hand pillar.

Each coin comes with a light violet catalogue card containing a description and the relief of the coin. (source: CNB)
