2015 - 10000 CZK Jan Hus - BU

600th anniversary of the burning at the stake of Jan Hus

On 3 July 2015, the Czech National Bank is putting into circulation a CZK 10,000 gold coin to mark the 600th anniversary of the burning at the stake of Jan Hus. The coin is minted from 999.9 purity gold and is issued in two versions, normal quality and proof quality, which differ in surface treatment and edge marking. Proof-quality coins have a highly polished field, a matt relief and a plain edge, while normal quality coins have milled edges. The coin is 34 mm in diameter, weighs 31.107 g and is 2.45 mm thick. Deviations in diameter of 0.1 mm and thickness of 0.15 mm are allowed. Upward deviations in weight of 0.062 g and in gold content of 0.01% are allowed.

The obverse side features a motif of a cross. The upper part of the coin contains a composition of heraldic animals from the large national emblem of the Czech Republic located in shields – the Czech lion in the middle, the Silesian eagle to the right and the Moravian eagle to the left. The Czech lion is located in the upper part of the cross. The name of the state in Czech “ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA” and the denomination and abbreviated monetary unit “10 000 Kč” are written inside the cross. A transcription of one of the sermons given by Jan Hus is located to the left and right of the cross. The mark of the Czech Mint, in the form of the letters “Č” and “M”, is situated near the lower edge of the coin. The reverse side features a stylised figure of Jan Hus. The text “MISTR JAN HUS” is to the left and the years “1415 – 2015” to the right of the figure. The figure and the texts together form a stylised cross. The initial of the designer of the coin, Jakub Orava – the letter “O” in a frame – is situated to the right of the year “2015”.

Each coin comes with a red catalogue card containing a description and the relief of the coin.
