UNESCO World Heritage - Bardejov - Town Conservation Reservee

Bardejov, the centre of the Upper Saris region, is situated in the northeastern part of Slovakia. The historical town centre with its impressive architecture is an important part of the Slovak monuments fund and was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000.

The developed craft production and trade supported by royal privileges was the main source of prosperity of the royal borough of Bardejov. The result of the prosperity in the 14th and 15th centuries was the rich secular and ecclesiastical architecture that gives the town, even today, a medieval appearance. The northern part of the town square, paved by oval river stones and bordered by a line of Gothic and Renaissance burghers' houses, ends with the monumental parish church of St. Aegedius. It features exceptionally well-preserved mobiliary dominated by 11 Late-Gothic winged altars. The second landmark of the square is the town hall. Its architecture is an example of the penetration of Early-Renaissance style into the Late Gothic shape of the building.

Obverse:
The detail of the facade of the town hall with the Renaissance oriel is depicted on the obverse of the coin in the middle. The coat of arms is to the left of the facade; the nominal value of the coin 5000 Sk is under it. The name of the state SLOVENSKA REPUBLIKA and the year of minting 2004 appears in the lettering from the left towards the bottom edge of the coin. The stylized initials of Milan Vircik, the designer, and the mark of the Polish State Mint are included in the top part of the town hall facade near the ledge.

Reverse:
The perspective view of the Church of St. Aegidius complemented with a detail from the late Gothic side altar of the Crucifixion with the sculpture of the biblical prophet Zachariah carrying a banner with an inscription is depicted of the reverse of the coin. The inscription SVETOVE DEDICSTVO UNESCO (UNESCO World Heritage) is in lettering from the left towards the bottom edge of the coin and the name of the town BARDEJOV is located under the church.
